Peteca
Peteca is a native South American game, played long before Christopher Columbus’s Arrival. It was played accompanied by singing, the playing of musical instruments and dancing. Slowly, it gained in popularity abroad. It is often played on the beach or on a lawn with friends or among family.
Originating in Brazil, the peteca is also known as a volleybird and is best described as badminton without racquets. Play by striking the bird with the palm of your hand in a circle or over a net. The peteca is great for developing hand-eye coordination or training for vollyball.
The peteca is part of the Edinburgh Festival Brazilian theme. If you want to buy something designed by the Campana Brothers but can’t afford the chairs etc., this is a great sculptural piece!
